The B-52 will reportedly start their reunion - and farewell - tours this year, igniting a buzz that the band might disband soon.
For years since 1976, The B-52 offered their music to fans non-stop. They also started their "continued touring" for over a decade now.
However, the band is seemingly ready to take a bow now since they consider their upcoming shows as their farewell tours.
In a statement by B-52's co-founder Kate Pierson, as quoted by Ultimate Classic Rock and Culture, she revealed that they would have farewell parties at their concerts alongside KC, Sunshine Band, and the Tubes.
"Who knew what started as a way to have some fun and play music for our friends at house parties in Athens in 1977 would evolve into over 45 years of making music and touring the world. It's been cosmic," she said.
Meanwhile, Fred Schneider said they decided to offer one last blowout to their friends, fans, and family after performing for almost a half-century.
On The B-52's website, it revealed that the band would start their North American farewell tour on August 22 in Seattle until the last date on November 11 in Atlanta. Fans can avail of tickets at the band's website.
However, a press release said that more shows would be included on the schedule in the next few weeks.
Aside from the farewell tour, The B-52 will be also a subject of a documentary exploring their career. Directed by Craig Johnson, the flick will present archival footage and photos which fans will see in early 2023.
The B-52's Legacy Recalled
Since they began in 1976, The B-52 has already seen people come and go. Some of its past members include the late Ricky Wilson and Paul Gordon. Pat Irwin, Zack Alford, Julee Cruise, and Sara Lee also became part of the new wave band from Athens, Georgia.
The band was first formed by Cindy, Ricky, Pierson, Strickland, and Schneider. They held their impromptu jam session at a Chinese restaurant in Georgia. From there, they continuously released new music that appeared on several charts.
They have already released several award-winning and hit albums in the past years, including "Wild Planet," "Bouncing Off the Satellites," "Cosmic Thing," "Funplex," and "Mesopotamia."
In the past decade, they spent their time performing in several countries until they decided to end their stint with farewell tours.
