Entering the music industry and show business at a young age could be very intimidating, this is the same thing that happened to Adam Lambert as he revealed his true feelings upon rising to stardom.
Speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former "American Idol" contestant said he felt like a "fish out of water" when his career took off.
The singer recalled his journey on the show and explained how it changed his life 15 years after placing second.
"I'm not trying to virtue signal. I've been a queer person who entered the music industry as a fish out of water," the "If I Had You" hitmaker said. (via Illinois News Now)
Lambert added it's interesting after more than a decade that his work environment makes everyone "feel represented and comfortable."
Recalling his audition in front of judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randi Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi, the singer said his theater background might be the reason why he is a household name today.
At the time, the singer said the judges looked at him, squinted, and didn't say much about his performance.
"That was not a good sign. I'd been doing theater for ages. I knew my way around an audition," he added.
He decided to switch things up by performing something different; he sang Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," and the rest was history.
Despite being a runner-up on "American Idol," Lambert said his biggest takeaway from the show was his core group of fans that stood by him since the beginning of his career.
He even recognizes them at shows and he knows his fans' faces.
The singer adds, "It feels safe, like a family reunion or family holiday. I still feel very flattered and humbled."
After his "American Idol" Journey, the hitmaker became in demand in several other shows to be a judge. He has appeared on "Project Runway," "RuPaul's Drag Race," "X Factor Australia," "Clash of the Cover Bands," "Starstruck" and many more.
Elsewhere in the interview, Lambert teased fans of his next album, saying it will be a concept record in the tradition of "Tommy" or "Jesus Christ Superstar."
As of this writing, the singer has not publicly announced the title of his upcoming album.
