Throughout the years, Judas Priest fans have noticed that the band includes a motorcycle on stage during their live shows. However, none of them could explain the meaning behind it until today.
In a recent interview with Goldmine Magazine, frontman Rob Halford finally revealed the truth behind the iconic motorcycle that's been a significant part of their tours.
At the time when they released "Hell Bent for Leather," the band was at a club somewhere in the United Kingdom. When they pulled up at the venue, there were bikers outside.
Halford randomly thought of bringing a motorcycle out while performing their song out of the blue.
He spoke to a few riders and explained his idea.
"So, I had the bike, and I had a leather jacket. I put a leather jacket on, and it was like an epiphany. It was a very unplanned epiphany. Everything seemed to feel 100 percent connected at that particular show," he said.
Since they have the bike already, the whole "manifestation of the look" became perfect as it added the sound and felt, leading fans to go "ballistic" during their shows.
Despite the theatrics, the frontman's motorcycle segment on their shows isn't always perfect, as mishaps could still occur.
During their 1990 tour for the "Painkiller" album, Halford was knocked off the motorcycle when he rode onto the stage at the end of the show by a misplaced prop.
The accident was so bad that he became unconscious and broke his nose, causing him to miss the last song of the evening.
An unfortunate mishap happened again in 2011 when he toppled off the bike after driving it on stage during a concert in Brazil.
Halford lost balance when the vehicle fell off. Lucky for him, he didn't sustain any injuries during that incident.
Judas Priest is currently traveling across Europe for their tour. Their first two shows in Moscow and Sankt-Peterburg, Russia, were canceled due to the Ukraine invasion.
Their European tour will kick off at Huxley's Neue Welt in Berlin, Germany, on May 31, before performing in different cities like Kyviv, Gdańsk, Tallinn, Helsinki, Rättvik, Linköping, Stavanger, København, Clisson, Vivero, Santa Coloma De Gramenet, and many more.
