Taylor Swift delivered the graduation address for the Class of 2022 at New York University.

Before delivering her 20-minute speech, the "All Too Well" singer was awarded an honorary fine arts degree from the institution for being one of the most "prolific and famous artists of her time."

She was surrounded not just by thousands of students, but also by relatives, friends, and teachers from the institution.

Swift stated at one point in her address, "I won't tell you what to do because no one likes that. I will, however, give you some life hacks I wish I knew when I was starting my dreams of a career and navigating life, love, pressure, choices, shame, hope, and friendship."

Even the Grammy Award-winning singer was perplexed as to why she was chosen to speak and inspire the grads.

This is why many people believed she delivered an unappealing speech that enraged the newly-graduates of the prestigious institution.

According to The Sun writer who was present at the event, it would have been preferable to hear from the other two beneficiaries, Susan Hockfield and Felix Matos Rodriguez. They also contributed significantly to education, science, and research.

Graduates, on the other hand, were forced to listen to Swift lecture about what she had learnt as an 11-time Grammy-winning millionaire.

Before sharing many "life tips" with the grads, she joked that she is not prepared to "teach you what to do."

The attendee said that the "Lover" hitmaker advised them to "embrace cringe," but some of them didn't need the encouragement as they sat in their seats. because they had "already completely embraced the discomfort caused by Swift's remarks"

According to the writer for the outlet, one of the most cringe-worthy moments of the ceremony occurred when she spoke about "effortlessness."

Swift called effortlessness a "myth."

She explained, "The people who wanted it the least were the ones I wanted to date and be friends with in high school."

Swift added, "The people who want it the most are I now hire to work for my company."

However, her comment garnered confusion from the crowd.

The Sun then further explained, "Whatever the reason for Swift's appearance an honorary degree, it's certainly a moment in time that won't soon be forgotten - cringe, effort, and all."
