Projected to have the biggest opening weekend sales this week, Harry Styles' "Harry's House," might be the biggest album he has ever produced to date.
The singer, who has yet to win a GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year, is poised to be nominated in the top category of the upcoming 2023 GRAMMYs.
With eight months in the GRAMMY eligibility period (Oct 2021 - Sept 2022), it seemed like the Brit might be running against huge acts on the coveted Album of the Year award.
Who's in the Running for GRAMMYs 2023 Album of the Year?
Harry Styles - "Harry's House"
Hits Daily Double projects that Harry Styles' third studio album will generate over 500,000 equivalent album units on its opening week. Spotify ranked the fifth biggest opening-day stream for an album in global Spotify chart history - racking over 97 million streams in total.
Adele - "30"
Adele's fourth album has surpassed a plethora of records and has stayed in both US and UK charts for long weeks already. Her album is a huge contender for the top award; if not, almost a sure win already. (via Gold Derby)
Kendrick Lamar - "Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers"
As of this writing, Kendrick Lamar's "Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers" is the current holder of the biggest opening weekend for any album in 2022. The album precedes his Pulitzer and GRAMMY-winning album, "DAMN," in 2017.
Silk Sonic - "An Evening With Silk Sonic"
This year's Record and Song of the Year awardee is still in the running for Album of the Year as the entire album was released on Nov. 12, 2022, well within the eligibility period for 2023. Should Silk Sonic emerge victoriously, the duo completes their shelf with the Top 3 awards.
Lizzo - "Special"
Although the album has yet to have its release date in mid-July 2022, Lizzo's previous history with the GRAMMYs might guarantee her a spot on the nomination pool. With the massive success of her "About Damn Time" on TikTok, her album might likely be full of bops like it usually has.
The Weeknd - "Dawn FM"
Going head to head with Gunna at the start of the year, The Weeknd has released the sequel for his "After Hours," an album that fans described as "robbed" at the GRAMMYs. But with the incredible music production that Abel has displayed for "Dawn FM," this might be hard to miss.
