Dan + Shay have been big fans of Kenny Chesney since they were younger. The duo used to go to the singer's summer tours, but now, they're opening for him for his Stadium tour along with Old Dominion and Carly Pearce.
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney decided to express their love for the singer by writing a heart-warming song to pay tribute to the country legend.
In a video message to their fans, the duo stood in an empty Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, the city where they grew up.
"We grew up going to these concerts every single summer. It's an absolute dream come true for us to be on this tour," Dan said while wearing a Kenny Chesney shirt. (via Taste of Country)
He added that thinking about it gets him emotional.
Speaking about the songwriting process, Dan said they sat down to write a song, and it later escalated into a tribute for the country star.
"We wrote a song about what Kenny's music means to us, what it means to be on the road. At the end of the day, we're still just fans," Dan said.
Since they had just written the song, it appears that they haven't memorized the lyrics yet, as Shay can be seen looking at his phone.
Although the singers didn't include the song in the video, they promised to debut the song tonight at 6 p.m. central time.
Kenny Chesney Stadium Tour 2022
The latest song by Dan + Shay comes a month after Kenny Chesney returned to stage at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, after three years of not going on tour.
His highly-anticipated concert was canceled twice because of the pandemic and location issues.
Speaking about his plans, the country star said he didn't cope very well in 2020 as it halted his plans to perform in a massive crowd.
In an interview with USA Today, Chesney said his tour would be emotional as it took him a while to go back to the stage.
"There were moments during the first year of COVID that I was wondering if this moment would ever come. This is what we do," he said.
His next show will be at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas, on June 2.
His remaining shows are set to continue in Dallas, Canandaigua, Pittsburgh, Virginia Beach, Bristow, Cincinnati, Rogers, Brandon, and many more.
