Despite the ongoing war against Ukraine and Russia, the former's Eurovision team maintained their high morale during the highly-anticipated Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Triumphing over United Kingdom's Sam Ryder, Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra managed to win the annual competition after receiving a huge chunk of the public vote from the public.
Although their win in the European competition might be the least of the priority of Ukrainian citizens displaced throughout the continent, the group has pledged their Eurovision win for their war-torn country.
Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra Eurovision Trophy Up For Auction?
BBC News has reported that the crystal microphone trophy that Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra won in Eurovision Song Contest 2022 was already auctioned on Facebook.
Kalush Orchestra has sold the trophy for $900,000 (£712,000; €838,000) to raise money for the war in Ukraine. With the money they would be getting, the group is aiming to purchase drones for the Ukrainian Military to help fend off Russian attackers.
Aside from the coveted trophy, the band also had a Charity benefit concert at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate last Sunday - coinciding with the auction. The funds raised for the event shall be used to purchase medicine and medical supplies for Ukrainian refugees.
Crypto exchange firm Team WhiteBit was the one that bought Ukraine's Eurovision 2022 trophy for $900,000.
"You guys are amazing! We appreciate each and every one of you who donated to this auction, and a special thanks to Team WhiteBIT, who purchased the trophy for $900,000 and are now the rightful owners of our trophy. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the band posted yesterday on Facebook.
Last February, Russia invaded its neighboring country Ukraine. The disastrous conflict totaled over a thousand lives lost, millions displaced throughout the continent, and cities reduced to ashes.
Despite the ongoing war, Kalush Orchestra emerged victorious in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 held in Turin, Italy, with their song "Stefania."
Armenia and Montenegro were among the forty participants this year. The two countries returned this year despite their previous absences. Russia initially participated but was later axed because of the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
