Travis Scott has scheduled his first festival performance in the United States after a catastrophic crowd surge at his own Astroworld festival resulted in dozens of injuries and ten fatalities. The rapper will headline Day N Vegas, which will take place at the Las Vegas Festival Ground from September 2 to 4.
Last year, Scott was set to headline Day N Vegas, but he was canceled because the event was to take place a week after Astroworld (he was replaced by Billie Eilish).
Goldenvoice, the same concert promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach, organizes Day N Vegas; a representative for the firm did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone's request for comment on the choice to book Scott less than a year after the Astroworld catastrophe.
Although Day N Vegas is the only U.S. festival now on Scott's calendar for this year, it was previously reported that he would perform at multiple Primavera Sound festivals in South America. The first show will take place in Sao Paolo, Brazil on November 6 (one day after the first anniversary of the Astroworld catastrophe), followed by performances in Buenos Aires, Argentina (November 12), and Santiago, Chile (November 13).
Scott was originally scheduled to perform at last year's festival, but organizers of Day N Vegas announced just days prior to Scott's scheduled performance - and days after the Astroworld tragedy that killed 10 victims between the ages of 9 and 27 and injured hundreds - that Post Malone would replace Scott as the headlining act.
"Travis Scott will no longer be performing at Day N Vegas," the festival said in a statement shared to social media. "The security and safety of all attending Day N Vegas has been and is always top priority in our festival planning. We continue to work hand in hand with law enforcement, medical personnel and public safety agencies on our protocols for the weekend.
Despite persistent litigation and controversy, Scott has continued to return to the stage. In May, he performed at the Billboard Music Awards, his first significant performance since the scandal. Additionally, the Barcelona-based music event Primavera Sound earlier confirmed that Scott would perform at a number of festival dates in November.
In March, Scott proposed a $5 million effort titled "Project HEAL" that he described as a "catalyst for meaningful change" to heal the community in the wake of the Astroworld tragedy.
