Zendaya shot to fame after being a member of Kidz Bop, a group of kids who cover songs, including their ever-famous "Hot n Cold" in 2009. Despite starting her career through music, it seems like the actress will not return to her roots anymore as revealed in a recent discussion.
The "Dune" star appeared on the cover of Variety's Actors on Actors issue along with "Spider-Man" co-star Andrew Garfield.
Elsewhere in the discussion, the Disney Channel alum revealed why she prioritized acting instead of being a pop star.
Zendaya said she was speaking to Sam Levinson about her thoughts on pop stardom, saying she doesn't know if she'll ever be a pop star as there's a level of anonymity as an actor that she really likes.
"And I get to sort my stuff, whatever that is, through a character and nobody needs to know about it. Whereas in other forms and other mediums, it's all you all the time," she added.
The actress added that she likes the idea that somebody else, like her character Rue from HBO's "Euphoria," gets to "take on that stuff."
Garfield then interjected, saying "boundaries."
Zendaya's Short-Lived Pop Star Career
Today, Zendaya is known as one of the best actresses on the Hollywood scene after appearing in iconic movies like the Academy Award-winning film "Dune," and many more.
Little did her recent fans know that the actress used to be a pop star. She made her television debut in 2010 for the Disney Channel show "Shake It Up."
Her role required her to sing songs like "Fashion Is My Kryptonite" and "Something to Dance For."
According to People Magazine, the former singer released an electro-R&B song titled "Replay" that entered the Billboard Hot 100, placing at No. 40.
The song became certified Platinum by the RIAA.
She went on to release her self-titled debut album under Disney's Hollywood Records. The record became successful as it reached No. 51 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Three years later, Zendaya switched record labels as she signed to Republic Records. She released a collaboration song with Chris Brown titled "Something New."
The song did not do well on charts as it only reached No. 93.
Since then, the actress retired from pop music, but she continued singing as part of the soundtracks of the movies and shows she starred in like "Smallfoot," "The Greatest Showman," and "Euphoria."
