Jennifer Hudson has now achieved EGOT status!
In the recently concluded Tony Awards 2022, Hudson sealed her last trophy with a Tony Award for Best Musical for producing "A Strange Loop."
Predicted to win the top award at the 2022 Tony Awards, "A Strange Loop" won Best Musical and Best Book of A Musical.
Hudson was among the other 44 producers of the Tony-winning musical, along with Billy Porter, Mindy Kaling, RuPaul Charles, Don Cheadle, and Alan Cumming, among others.
With this incredible feat, Jennifer Hudson is now the 17th artist who achieved EGOT status - a person who was awarded with the four major awards in the entertainment industry (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).
Aside from that, the "Dreamgirls" hitmaker was also the third Black person who sealed an EGOT, coming after Whoopi Goldberg and John Legend. She is also the third youngest, trailing behind Robert Lopez and John Legend.
How Did Jennifer Hudson Get Her EGOT Status?
After losing at Top 7 on the third season of American Idol, Jennifer Kate Hudson has become one of the most famous artists that the show has produced, despite not winning the title.
She first made her breakthrough in the music industry after being offered the role of the famous Effie White in the film adaptation of "Dreamgirls."
With Newsweek describing her performance as Barbra Streisand's and Aretha Franklin's, she received an Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2007 for "Dreamgirls."
After her career took off, Hudson, now a force in the music industry, released her self-titled debut album in 2009, which won a GRAMMY Award for Best R&B Album.
With an Oscar and a Grammy already in the bag, Hudson's quest for EGOT has officially started, as she was only short for an Emmy and a Tony.
Contrary to others' expectations, Jennifer Hudson was not nominated for a Primetime Emmy but a Daytime Emmy instead.
A decade after she won her first GRAMMY, she produced "Baba Yaga," and won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Interactive Media for a Daytime Program.
Despite her amazing performance in the revival of "The Color Purple" in 2015, Hudson was snubbed - turning over her role to Heather Headley afterward.
Hudson returned to Broadway in 2022, but not as an actress but as a producer to the Pulitzer-winning musical, "A Strange Loop." Along with huge names in the Black and queer community, Hudson has production credits on the show.
Early predictions indicate that the show will win Best Musical, which would give Hudson an EGOT. Truthfully yesterday, the Michael R. Jackson "A Strange Loop" helped Hudson achieve EGOT status as it won Best Musical and Best Book of a Musical at the 2022 Tony Awards.
