Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, might be spending more than a year in jail.

In case you missed it, the Queen of Rap's husband was arrested in 2020 after failing to register as a sex offender while cruising around Beverly Hills at the time.

Talks of his imprisonment have long been in legal discussion. But most recently, the prosecution is trying to get petty to serve his sentence behind bars, not in the safety of their mansion in Calabasas, California.

Nicki Minaj's Husband Kenneth Petty Arrested Sex Offender?

Petty was currently a registered sex offender in the state of New York. He was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in the Big Apple in 1995.

However, Petty relocated to California with the "Do We Have A Problem" hitmaker in July 2019. Around November of the same year, he was arrested over traffic violations in California - this is when authorities discovered that he failed to register in California as a sex offender, as required by the law.

Months after his November altercation, Petty was arrested again in March the following year and has only pleaded guilty in September 2021.

"The timing of defendant's lapse in registration is concerning, given that it occurred when defendant began dating his wife, quit his job, moved to Los Angeles, and adopted an affluent lifestyle," the filing stated.

Prosecution Wants Kenneth Petty Behind Bars

Per TMZ, the federal prosecutor thinks that it is not enough for Kenneth Petty to spend six months in jail and a supervised release as a punishment.

The prosecution is apparently bothered that Petty would be spending his home confinement at the couple's opulent Calabasas mansion - which boasts an affluent environment with a pool, high-end music studio, and a massive backyard - which is not clearly a punishment for a sex offender.

Aside from this, the prosecution believes that Petty's involvement with Nicki Minaj took him into a bad route. (via HipHopDX)

This is because court documents explain that Petty was obedient in registering his paperwork for almost two decades - but it was only when he rekindled his relationship with the GRAMMY-nominated rapper in 2019 and moved to California that he "adopted an affluent lifestyle."

Instead of the home punishment, the prosecution seeks 15 months of prison time for Kenneth Petty, on top of five years of supervised release and $55,000 retribution.

The presiding judge will reveal Kenneth Petty's sentence on Jul. 6, 2022.
