Dave Grohl had remained quiet over the past few months after his Foo Fighters bandmate Taylor Hawkins passed away and the cancellation of their 2022 tour. However, the musician surprised everyone recently as he appeared as Paul McCartney's surprise guest.
According to Uproxx, the former Nirvana member performed for the first time since the drummer's death during McCartney's Glastonbury Music Festival set on the Pyramid Stage.
He surprised fans by introducing a "friend" and a "hero" from the West Coast.
The musician went up on stage and played "I Saw Her Standing There" by The Beatles and "Band on the Run" by Wings.
Grohl was not the only surprise guest of the evening as another legendary artist was called to go on stage.
McCartney surprised concertgoers by also inviting Bruce Springsteen, who performed "Glory Days" and "I Wanna Be Your Man."
Later that evening, to conclude the singer's 38-song set that lasted for hours, the three stars performed "The End."
The latest appearance comes a few months after Foo Fighters canceled their world tour.
According to NME, the band took to their social media accounts to confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates after Hawkins' death.
"We're sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won't be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let's take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close," they added.
It appears that the band is ready to pay tribute and honor their former bandmate as they announced earlier this month that they would be performing in a commemorative concert to honor Hawkins' legacy.
As announced in June, Foo Fighters and the drummer's family members organized the "The Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts."
They are set to perform on two separate dates (September 3 and 27). The first one will be at the Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom, then the other at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California.
Foo Fighters is set to play Hawkins' favorite songs and those he brought to life as a band member.
As of this writing, the band has not announced the star-studded lineup yet.
In March this year, fans were shocked as Foo Fighter announced Hawkins' death online. The musician was found unresponsive and dead in his hotel room in Bogota, Colombia, hours before they took the stage at Festival Estero Picnic.
