Justin Bieber bagged his first BET Award last Sunday, but fans think the hitmaker is not worthy of the recognition.
Nominated for Best Collaboration with Wiz Kid and Tems for "Essence," the trio managed to seal a huge win in the coveted category - beating Drake, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Doja Cat, Drake, and DJ Khaled, among others.
Fans of the hip-hop heavyweights are voicing out their frustration, even pointing out Bieber's contribution to the track.
Justin Bieber BET Awards Undeserving?
Justin Bieber, who currently halted his North American "Justice" tour because of his tragic diagnosis of the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, scored some good news despite his predicament.
The "Love Yourself" hitmaker wins his first BET Award in his career. He was first nominated at the awards show in 2010 as Best New Artist and for the Fandemonium Award but lost in both categories.
For Tems, this is her second BET Award after winning Best International Act on the same night. As for Wiz Kid, this is his fourth BET.
Twelve years after, Bieber's song with Wizkid and Tems on "Essence" was nominated for Best Collaboration - and finally, he won.
However, fans of the losing nominees in the category are not celebrating the win.
But despite this, some still think the song deserved, but a few questioned Wiz's decision to use the Bieber remix instead of the original one.
The trio successfully beat out Nicki Minaj and BIA's "Whole Lotta Money," GRAMMY-winning songs "Kiss Me More," and "Family Ties," among many others. It also bested Drake, Future, & Young Thug's "Way 2 Sexy," and DJ Khaled, Lil Baby, and Lil Durk's "Every Chance I Get."
