French Montana is a rapper that has received several accolades and honors throughout the years.
His 2017 single Unforgettable earned him a diamond plaque for selling 10 million sales of the song.
Now he's making a big claim about the impressive achievement.
French, actual name Karim Kharbouch, boldly stated in an interview with Gillie Da Kid and Wallo on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast (via Hiphop News) that he is the first rapper from New York to receive a diamond certification.
"I'm the first male artist from the Mecca, The Bronx, and the first-born African artist ever to go diamond."
"I'm the first male artist from the mecca of Hip Hop to go diamond, you know what I'm saying. "
This is why French's statements took the podcast hosts off surprise, with Gillie questioning if Jay-Z has ever received a diamond certification, to which the 37-year-old musician replied, "No."
French Montana didn't specify if he was referring to albums or songs that have achieved diamond status, but that didn't stop social media from mocking him for his arrogant comments.
"Biggie life after certified diamond come on French U know frank white numbers u was on the bad guy," one Twitter user stated.
"Did French Montana claim he's the first rapper to go diamond from the mecca of hip-hop?" another Twitter user asked. "Did I hear that right, LMAOO?"
Fact-Checking French Montana's Claims
When it comes to singles, French Montana is the only male rapper to accomplish the feat, while Nicki Minaj accomplished it with her smash song Super Bass.
In terms of albums, The Notorious B.I.G.'s Life After Death album was certified diamond in 2018, while Tupac was the first New York-born rapper to do so with his Greatest Hits album in 2011.
Other Shocking Statements by French Montana
But this isn't the first time French Montana has boasted or spoken highly of himself; only a few weeks ago, he discussed his mixtape run and his plans to go mainstream when the moment arose.
"When I dimmed it down, I sold more albums, and I'm playing in a numbers game," he remarked on Connected With Wayno. "If I can put up numbers, why wouldn't I put up numbers, and I can still rap?"
