Formally known as Tione Jayden Merritt, Lil Tjay was born in the Bronx in New York City on April 30, 2001.
The rapper rose to prominence in 2018 after releasing the song Resume. After which, he signed to Columbia Records for a recording deal.
A year after, Lil Tjay's debut studio album, True 2 Myself, was released. The album then debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 all-genres album charts.
He also released his star-studded extended play State of Emergency in 2020, launching at #31 on the same coveted all-genre album chart - besting his predecessor F.N. which debuted at #38 and was certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.
After two successful mixtapes, Lil Tjay then released Destined 2 Win in April 2021. Critics praised the lengthy sophomore effort. It also debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200, the same spot as the debut album.
Unlike True 2 Myself, Lil Tjay's Destined 2 Win ranked higher at #7 on the UK Album Charts compared to the former, which only managed to peak at #22.
