Happy birthday Missy Elliot!!
Missy Elliot Net Worth 2022
Missy Elliott has a net worth of $50 million as an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and music producer. She was the first female rapper to be admitted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and her records have sold over 30 million copies in the United States. It's no wonder she's one of the richest rappers today.
But her life was not always peaches and cream! She had a pretty rough childhood, which involved domestic violence and abuse. She was however, able to graduate from high school, unlike most who grew up in tough circumstances.
Bio, Age, Background
On July 1, 1971, Melissa "Missy" Arnette Elliott was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. Patricia Elliott, a power company dispatcher, and Ronnie Elliott, a former U.S. Marine, are her parents. Her family was religiously involved, and she joined her local church choir at a young age. During the time when her father was an active Marine, the family resided in Jacksonville, North Carolina, but ultimately returned to Virginia. Elliott and her mother went to the Hodges Ferry neighborhood in Portsmouth when she was fourteen years old, fleeing her father's domestic violence. Elliott graduated in 1990 from Woodrow Wilson High School.
Reuniting with Janet Jackson
Due to COVID-19, Missy Elliot and her pal Janet Jackson had to be apart for 2 years, unable to physically see each other.
They have now reunited and fans cannot be happier.
The 'Work It' singer posted a tribute to the "oSistaHood" she shares with the 56-year-old music queen and stated that Janet "got on a plane" so they could be reunited after enduring a difficult period during the pandemic.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday (08.06.22), the 50-year-old rapper wrote: "This is what 24 years oSistaHood look like. She used several emojis to express her glee. Fans flooded the comment section with positive reactions.
Early Career Success
Elliott created the all-female R&B group Fayze in 1991. Her pals La'Shawn Shellman, Chonita Coleman, and Radiah Scott were members. They collaborated with Elliott's neighbor Timothy Mosley (aka Timbaland) as their producer, and DeVante Swing was impressed by their demo tracks.
Shortly thereafter, Fayze and Timbaland relocated to New York City and signed with Elektra Records via DeVante's Swing Mob imprint. This is when they changed their name to Sista. All twenty-plus members of Swing Mob lived in a two-story house in New York, where they collaborated on a range of projects.
During this period, Elliott collaborated with singers such as Raven-Symoné and Jodeci, and Sista published their lone album, "4 All the Sistas Around da World" (1994).
At the conclusion of 1995, Swing Mob split, and Elliott and Timbaland began collaborating as a songwriting and producing partnership. Collectively, they composed music for singers including SWV, 702, Aaliyah, Total, and Destiny's Child.
Eventually, Elliott has established herself as a solo vocalist, appearing on songs by Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs, MC Lyte, New Edition, and Men of Vizion.
In 1996, she obtained a contract with East West Records, a subsidiary of Elektra Entertainment Group, to establish her own label, The Goldmind Inc. Midway through 1997, she released her debut solo album, "Supa Dupa Fly," which was eventually certified Platinum. In particular, the album's lead track "The Rain" performed exceptionally well.
At the 1998 Grammy Awards, "Supa Dupa Fly" was nominated for Best Rap Album, but ultimately lost to Puff Daddy's "No Way Out."
But she still went on to make great music until the present.
