Motley Crue is currently traveling across the United States for their long-awaited "Stadium Tour" with other music acts like Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett. In their recent show, frontman Vince Neil amassed criticisms on social media for using a teleprompter while singing.
During their show in St. Louis on July 5, many fans noticed that the singer had a small screen on the floor of their stage as a guide for him to remember the lyrics to the band's songs.
However, not all concertgoers were pleased to see the teleprompter and quickly criticized the vocalist for having it on stage as some of them deemed it "lazy" because fans pay a lot of money for concerts, and the least he could do is to memorize the lyrics.
Following this, many musicians took to Twitter to defend Neil, including David Draiman.
"All you parasitic vultures pretending to be journalists who broke the 'big story' that Vince Neil/@MotleyCrue uses a teleprompter onstage should really find another line of work. SO F****** WHAT? Most artists with extensive catalogs do. Leave the guy alone FFS," the Disturbed member wrote.
Zach Meyers of Shinedown also expressed his distaste for the topic, saying, "Slow news day?"
Craig Reynolds of Stray From The Path had a different take on the matter as he posted his reaction in a comedic way, "my brothers in christ, do you know what metalcore is doing with laptops?" (via WGRD 97.9)
Many fans also defended the rock legend, saying it's fair for him to use a teleprompter because other musicians use guides for their performances, like drummers' click track and guitarists' capo.
Other users chimed in, saying other rock icons use teleprompters like Ozzy Osbourne and Aerosmith.
As of this writing, Motley Crue has not publicly commented on the matter.
Despite many musicians defending the singer, Bruce Dickinson of Maiden thinks otherwise, as he explained in a 2014 interview, saying, "what the f*** is that all about? People pay good money and you can't even remember the sodding words."
Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett will continue traveling throughout the United States until September.
Their next show will be at the Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Friday, July 8.
