Lea Michele's "Funny Girl" casting was one of the biggest Broadway casting news to hit in the past few weeks, and it is all because the internet finally saw it come to life.

"Funny Girl's" 2022 Broadway Revival was supposed to be huge, but everything fell short when concerns about Beanie Feldstein's casting were announced last August 2021.

While some remain hopeful about the "bold" casting decision, the other side of the internet, the newer generations, to say the least, know that there is only one aside from Barbra Streisand who can play the role with all of her heart - Lea Michele.

Lea Michele's 'Funny Girl' Casting Iconic?

For Millennials and Generation Z who were raised by modern American television, "Glee" was considered a pop culture reset. The FOX hit musical comedy-drama was the biggest television show in 2009, amassing billions of viewers worldwide.

One of the main protagonists of "Glee" is Rachel Berry, played by Lea Michele. In the show, Michele's character's lifelong dream was to play Fanny Brice on Broadway, following in the footsteps of Barbra Streisand.

On the show which ran for six seasons, Michele's character belted out almost all of the songs that the show got from "Funny Girl" - including "Don't Rain On My Parade" which Michele was famously known for.

Throughout the series, Michele played Berry who auditioned for the Broadway revival of "Funny Girl" in the series. At the start of Season Five, Rachel Berry landed the role of Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl" and eventually received rave reviews about it.

Yesterday, July 11, 2022, the actual Broadway Revival production of "Funny Girl" announced that Lea Michele will replace the exiting Beanie Feldstein in September 2022, after rumors and insistent popular demand.

Twitter Reacts To Lea Michele's 'Funny Girl' Casting

Netizens on Twitter were thrilled to finally see the confirmation, as it was actually "Glee" that came to life.

To cap off the amazing coincidence, Jane Lynch, who currently plays Mrs. Brice on "Funny Girl," also played the iconic Sue Sylvester on "Glee." Lynch's character literally left the show during Michele's performance, similar to her upcoming departure on the show along with Beanie Feldstein.

Lea Michele will play Fanny Brice on "Funny Girl" starting Sep. 6, 2022, while Tovah Feldshuh stars as Mrs. Brice.
