Cardi B revealed her blooming music career has one downside - that it makes her quite suspicious of people around her.
The "WAP" singer revealed that she was too apprehensive to employ a nanny for her and Offset's daughter, Kulture, when she became famous.
"When the baby got here, I couldn't even think about getting a nanny because I was afraid of anybody being around her besides my family," Cardi, 29, told Vogue Singapore in her cover story.
The "Hot S-t" rapper, who welcomed Kulture in July 2018, had originally intended to employ domestic help to care for her newborn, but after achieving success, she realized she could not trust anyone.
"There weren't a lot of artists out there who had babies at the beginning of their career. I didn't have an album out when I found out I was pregnant," she recalled. "Everybody was so nervous for my career and future, but I kept telling them, 'It's easy. Trust me, I'm going to have a nanny and she's going to travel up and down with me. It's not even going to be a hassle.'"
Instead, Cardi went to her parents, only to later become concerned that she was relying on them too heavily.
She explained that she believe that in general, parents have already lived their lives and reared their children. Since they are older and have less energy than someone in their twenties, they should not be saddled with their grandkids. She added that it is her duty as a mother to be close to her children at all times.
Currently, the "WAP" performer admits she struggles to balance her profession with caring for Kulture, 4, and Wave, her and Offset's second kid, who was born in September 2021.
She informed the publication that Wave had been ill throughout their conversation, so she had been "up all night and day."
Cardi B shared that she now has a higher respect for her mom given how the latter was able to endure raising her and her sister. The rapper said she and her sister tend to fall ill at the same time, too.
She shared that she's overwhelmed and terrified, so much so that she began to consider how often her mother had to endure this because she and her sister tended to fall ill at the same time. "I've never appreciated my [mom] more - having kids helps you see things a little bit different," she added.
Cardi and the 30-year-old Migos artist secretly wed in September of 2017. In September 2020, they briefly split, but in November of same year, she retracted her divorce papers and reignited their romance.
