Randall Wulff, Performer of 'L'Amour' under Alias 'Lewis,' Found Alive After 30 Year Absence from Culture

More than 30 years ago, a performer named Lewis released his debut album, L'Amour, on R.A.W. Records. It was a critical smash...for the few people who listened to it. A compilation of synthesizers and acoustic guitars, featuring vocals from the man who listeners assumed provided the image for the cover of the record: A grey portrait of a shirtless man striking a pose you might expect on a slightly cheesier product.

Then he disappeared.

Randall Wulff, the alias of "Lewis," was absent from the public eye for so long that many believed he was dead. Still others suggested that Wullf had never existed but was merely an alias for another performer.

Light In The Attic Records has put those rumors to rest however, and Wulff himself has certainly not been laid to rest. The label is re-releasing L'Amour, and for the sake of...who knows...decided to try and seek out its creator. It received a tip from a friend of the musician that he was residing in Canada and they eventually found him outside a coffee shop. They offered him copies of the reissues for his consideration, he approved and declined to keep the new renditions. Although 100 percent in support of the label's actions, Wulff himself has long abandoned his recording career and doesn't seem excited for it to come back to him.

"I wish you guys all the best," he said. "I'm not looking back. I'm doing stuff now that's taken me forty, fifty years to write. I'm not looking into coin. I'm not looking into anything. I'm just strumming my guitar. I just wish you guys all the best in the world."
