Friends and families are still mourning the death of seven people after the Highland Park shooting in Illinois last July 4th weekend. Today, The Smashing Pumpkins vocalist Billy Corgan announced that he's doing a big move for the victims.
According to NME, the singer will be having a virtual concert called "Together and Together Again" to support the victims of the devastating mass shooting.
The show will be on July 27 (Wednesday) at around 8 p.m. Central Standard Time.
Fans can access the online concert for free through the band's official YouTube channel.
Since the concert is free for everyone, viewers can contribute donations through the stream itself.
In addition to donating, fans can purchase merchandise like shirts and posters with artwork by Gary Baseman.
100% of proceeds earned from the event the merch will go directly to the Highland Park Community Foundation.
Shirts and posters are priced from $40 to $300 (signed poster).
The physical event will be held at Madame Zuzu's, a tea house in Illinois owned by Corgan and his partner Chloé Mendel
The vocalist announced the event through a video posted on social media where he mentioned that he's lived in Highland Park for about two decades now. He also established his tea house in the suburban city.
Rolling Stone reported that his business is close to where the mass shooting occurred and they had to close down for a week in order for the FBI to investigate the matter.
Billy Corgan will not be performing alone as he will be accompanied by special guests Jimmy Chamberlin, Frank Catalano, and many more that haven't been announced yet.
He gave a hint on who could possibly appear on the live show as he mentioned that there will be "other parts of the Pumpkins family."
Corgan didn't reveal if there would be past members that will perform at the event.
Current members of the band include Corgan, Schroeder, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin while former members are D'arcy Wretzky, Melissa Auf der Maur, Nicole Fiorentino, and Mike Byrne.
In early reports, authorities identified a 22-year-old rapper named Robert "Bobby" E Crimo III, also known by his alias Awake The Rapper, as a "person of interest."
He released a song last year where he fantasized about participating in a mass shooting and being killed by police.
