Joe Budden has been quite a controversial figure in the hip-hop scene for quite some time already.

He is infamously known for not mincing his words and his contentious takes on artists and notable figures in the small world of music in the United States.

Very recently, with his honesty and might, Joe revealed something that might contradict the statements of rap legend Jay-Z.

Joe Budden's 'Pump It Up'

Entering the world of hip-hop as a Harlem native trying to bust a hit after signing to Def Jam Recordings, gained quite a following after releasing his 2003 hit, "Pump It Up."

The track turned out to be a huge success that has etched his name on the early 2000s hip-hop scene. The Just-Blaze-produced tune was a bop - charting No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 16 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts at the time of its release.

With the track's success, Budden wanted to make a remix out of it for his upcoming debut self-titled album, wanting Jay-Z to be featured at the time.

However, Budden revealed to Flip Da Script podcast that Hov's price was massive, describing it to be about half of the entire project's price.

Joe Budden's Wild Claims on Jay-Z's Collaboration Rates

Hosts Queenzlip and DJ G Money of the Flip Da Script Podcast became more curious about what transpired after Hov named his price - which turned out to be $250,000 at the time in 2003.

Joe Budden, who was just starting then, admitted that he was ,initially surprised with the price acknowledging that the sum was "too steep" for him. (via Complex)

However, he did not feel any strong emotions about the huge price. In fact, he was almost "humbled" to have Jay-Z give him a price for a collab.

Reflecting on it years after, especially now when he knew more about the industry, Budden says he was "grateful" for the conversation.

Although the "Empire State of Mind" rapper did not make it on Budden's debut album, the former ultimately used the beat for a freestyle on his 2010 compilation album.

Opening the song with a light jab against Budden, the podcaster is still ecstatic nonetheless.

Hov is Not Charging Fees Anymore

Speaking to Kevin Hart recently, Jay-Z clarified that he is not charging fees anymore to those who wanted to have a feature with him.

Particularly noting that he only collaborates with those who he has a good relationship with.

Elsewhere in the interview, the Tidal exec clarified that he is not quitting music anytime soon, despite not releasing any new albums or tracks.
