Many fans were glad that Judas Priest is finally going to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a lot of supporters have been protesting the organization to include them for years. However, not everyone has the same sentiments, including frontman Rob Halford.
According to Loudwire, the legendary band will be inducted with the Musical Excellence award, the honor is usually being presented to "artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence creating music have had a dramatic impact on music."
Speaking to AZCentral, Halford expressed his true feelings upon receiving the news that his band will be receiving the award later this year.
The outlet noted that this was the third time they had been on the ballot for possible induction but they previously failed to snatch the opportunity to be possibly inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Initially, the vocalist said all he wanted is a selfie with Dolly Parton and noted that it's a big honor to be one of the "absolutely extraordinary" musicians that will be a part of the ceremony.
However, in his recent interview, he questioned the organization's decision regarding its title.
"Why haven't they given us the the same title as all of our friends. Black Sabbath, for example. There's a different tag, isn't there?"
The singer then revealed that he was "a bit pissed" but realized that it doesn't matter and he should be grateful that Judas Priest will be a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
However, his overthinking didn't stop there as there were days when he feels like the Musical Excellence Award sounds "grandiose."
"I'm like, 'Yeah, but I want to be with that bunch of musicians over there that have got the performance or whatever it is that they've got.' I don't know why they gave us the Musical Excellence Award. I have no clue," he added.
He later compared their band to Black Sabbath, saying why can't they have the same title as the other band.
Halford later clarified that he's not Jealous of the rock band, he's just talking about the title that they received.
He also questioned the organization about putting tags on musicians instead of just welcoming them to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Despite his frustrations, the vocalist said he's grateful to see his band be one of the music acts that will be honored later this year because they're another metal act being recognized where the genre's representation is "lacking."
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, on November 5.
