Rina Sawayama has finally released the third single from her highly-anticipated sophomore album "Hold The Girl," and fans can't help but feel emotional over the track's deep meaning and sentiment.
According to NME, the new song "Hold The Girl" is a "multi-faceted" pop track that addresses the trauma of moving on from the past.
The lyrics read, "Sometimes I just wanna run away, leave behind that old me, start again/ Then I'll remember who I'm really made of/ And she's been hide-and-seeking, waiting all alone."
In a previous TikTok video, the British pop star revealed that it was the first song she wrote and recorded for the album and she immediately knew that it would be the title of her new record.
Sawayama said she had a "really emotional therapy session" before going to the studio, and her therapist told her to "hold the inner child."
While on her way to the recording studio, she wrote the song in her notes app.
Further explaining the meaning of the song, the "Ordinary Superstar" hitmaker said it's about "honoring your inner child" and giving yourself the support that you never had in your early years.
"Hold The Girl" is the follow-up single to her track "Catch Me In The Air," which was released last month.
The song revolves around the relationship of single parents with their children.
Sawayama previously said she wrote the track at the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic when people are considering having children and starting a family.
"It made me think of the pressures that parents go through when raising a child. I put myself in my mum's shoes. I'm nearly her age when she had me," she wrote.
Both songs are part of her upcoming album, which Sawayama said will be moved back to its September 16 release due to "production issues."
She will add one more song to the tracklist as a treat to fans.
