If you are wondering why #SaltAir is trending on Twitter over the last few hours of July and now, the month of August, it is because of Taylor Swift.
"Salt air" is literally the first two words of Taylor Swift's 2020 song "August."
The reason why it is trending is fairly simple.
Why Is #SaltAir Trending?
In fanbases, especially rich-culture ones like Directioners, Barbz, and even Swifties, the avid fans seemed to always make it a point to have their idols buzz over vague trend keywords - in this case, #SaltAir.
If you are not an avid Swiftie, you would not understand it at first glance.
#SaltAir is the first two words of Taylor Swift's "August," which talked about how she reminisces about the month of August, in a heart-wrenching way.
For Swifties, the trend is simply welcoming the month of August, with witty jokes and memes about the song - just like how everyone does when September comes, and everyone is asking everyone to wake them up when September ends.
The #SaltAir trended on Twitter, and even on Instagram as Swifties were seen literally throwing rock salt on the air to welcome the year's eighth month.

Taylor Swift's 'August' on 'Folklore'
Debuting along with the surprise album "Folklore" in July 2020, Taylor Swift released "august" as her "eighth track" - we don't think it was a coincidence though.
The track debuted at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 on the US Hot Rock & Alternative Songs Charts. It was also certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry for selling over 200,000 units.
Critics mainly praised Taylor Swift's "matured" songwriting skills on "August," noting how she shifted on her now-third person confessionals.
"August" comes along with the entire surprise "Folklore" album, which won the GRAMMY Award for Album of the Year in 2021.
Since its release, "Folklore" broke Spotify's record on the biggest-opening day on the streaming services for an album by a female act - The Guinness Book of World Records has certified this feat, later on, surpassed by "Red (Taylor's Version)."
Several publications like Time, Billboard, Rolling Stone, and Los Angeles Times have ranked the album as the Top Album of 2020, which came extra special considering the onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic.
"August," and the entire "Folklore" album is available for streaming on Spotify.
