Kendrick Lamar sent out an unusual tweet on Saturday evening (August 13) that praised his cousin and fellow artist Baby Keem. "Family ties" peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021 and was nominated for two Grammy Awards in the 2022 event.
Evidently, Kendrick considers Keem to be a "musical genius," as seen by his tweet. There's no contesting that. But Lamar's subsequent tweet certainly sparked questions.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning MC then promoted his label pgLang in a subsequent tweet titled "Ok Oklama pglang. on jojo ruski." Fans got confused by what it meant, wondering if it is in another language.
Google translated "on jojo ruski" into Croatian as "he yo-yos Russian," but it didn't help his fans interpret the cryptic post in the least. Some who probably tried to have it translated and still came up short thought he was high with something. Some of the followers' reactions are quite funny.
Kendrick Lamar is on a major world tour in celebration of his most recent album, Mr. Morales & The Big Steppers. In London, Kendrick played "family ties," "range brothers," and "vent" from Baby Keem's debut album The Melodic Blue.
With contributions from Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and Brent Faiaz, the 16-track album debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart following its September 2017 release. Additionally, the tune "family ties" won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance.
"Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers" is Kendrick's fourth album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with over 295,000 album-equivalent units sold. It also had the most streams on the first day on Apple Music in 2022, with over 60 million.
The project's success made it the "most streamed hip hop album of 2022" according to Rap Caviar on Spotify. Fans have begun to compare Kendrick Lamar's most recent album to his earlier works, as a result of its success.
In light of this, Spotify launched its new interactive in-app experience on Wednesday with Kendrick Lamar (August 10). "My Top 5: Kendrick Lamar Projects" is an innovative in-app experience that enables users and fans to share their five favorite Kendrick Lamar albums with their social media friends and followers.
With "My Top 5: Kendrick Lamar Projects," Spotify will highlight the same impassioned music debates and discussions.
To enjoy the immersive feature of the streaming platform, users must upgrade their Spotify app to the most recent version and then visit Spotify.com/top5 on their mobile devices. Fans can then select songs from Lamar's catalog and arrange them in the visual display before uploading a customized visual graphic on social media.
