ASAP Rocky faced the court in Los Angeles earlier today regarding his shocking 2021 case as he allegedly assaulted someone with a "semiautomatic firearm." How long will he stay behind bars if convicted?
According to Uproxx, the rapper was accompanied by his legal counsel Sara L. Caplan. Upon facing a judge, he immediately entered a "not guilty plea" to two charges.
In addition, he was placed on a $550,000 bond. If ever he's convicted, he could stay in jail for nine years.
Since ASAP Rocky is a rapper, he's required to travel for concerts and tours. However, it could hinder him as he's only out on bail.
His lawyer clarified to the judge if he'd be able to travel for his profession and he was granted as long as he clear the dates ahead of time.
As of this writing, the rapper has not canceled his upcoming appearance at Rolling Loud New York next month.
A preliminary hearing for his case will begin in November.
What Happened to ASAP Rocky?
Almost four months after being arrested at LAX, his alleged victim ASAP Relli, a manager and producer who is a part of the rapper's ASAP Mob collective, spoke out about the shooting incident.
He told Rolling Stone that he was lured to Central Hollywood where the 33-year-old musician allegedly shot him.
The reason why he filed a lawsuit against the recording artist was that he received "multiple death threats and irreparable harm to his career in the entertainment industry as a result of this incident."
ASAP Relli Reacts to ASAP Rocky's Assault Charges
In early reports, ASAP Relli reacted to his former pal's assault charges through his lawyer, saying he felt "vindicated" that the justice system worked for his favor.
His legal counsel Jamal Tooson issued a statement, saying the manager couldn't be happier even though he's good friends with Rocky since high school.
The lawyer clarified that his client was not hit with the bullet during the alleged November 2021 shooting, but claimed that Relli "came within inches of death" and the incident left him with a major psychological impact.
At first, the music producer felt that his case will be dismissed because of the rapper's status in the music industry, but since his old pal was charged, he felt at ease because the justice system has been "restored."
