The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards hosts are finally revealed and it's a pretty interesting mix.
MTV is bringing in three generations of hip-hop to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August 28 for the highly-awaited VMAs.
LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow are hosting this year's MTV Video Music Awards, staying true to their MC roots as they introduce the night's big moments and usher in huge highlights that fans are anticipating.
Billboard reports that the unlikely trio of hip-hop megastars will announce the show's performer lineup, which includes Minaj herself, the presenters, and the lucky winners.
The release also promised that the three would take the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards hosting in a "more innovative and unique approach" than the traditional hosting sequence.
This would be the first time that the show will be hosted by more than two co-hosts since the two times that MTV VJs did it before. In 1986, Julie Brown, Alan Hunter, Mark Goodman, Dweezil Zappa, and Martha Quinn hosted. The year after, Brown and Zappa reprised their roles but Carolyne Heldman, Michael Tomioka, and Kevin Seal took over.
Nicki Minaj Hosting, Accepting the Award, and Performing?
Rap royalty Nicki Minaj might be the busiest person that night as she would be taking three different roles in one day.
Nicki Minaj is nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video with Lil Baby on the action-packed "Do We Have A Problem," which they were pressed to win. But aside from that, the "Anaconda" rapper is also receiving the night's biggest award.
The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award will be awarded to Minaj, which is presented to an artist for their "outstanding contributions" and "profound impact" on music video and popular culture.
Along with his two awards, she would also be performing.
In Nicki's history with the VMAs, she likes to go all-out, and with "Super Freaky Girl" expected to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, fans are speculating that she would be debuting a live performance of the song on the VMA stage.
She would be hosting alongside LL Cool J, who is also a Video Vanguard recipient and multi-VMA awardee, and Jack Harlow who is tied among Lil Nas X and Kendrick Lamar as the most nominated artists of the night.
