Why Did Boston Declare August 18 as 'Bad Bunny Day'? Reason Revealed

The City of Boston, Massachusetts, has declared August 18 as the official Bad Bunny Day, surprising fans of the Latin singer with the quite unusual announcement.

Turns out, the city's mayor, Michelle Wu, was a massive fan of the singer himself, who came to Bad Bunny's Fenway Concert recently.

Bad Bunny is one of the biggest Latino singers in the country right now; with a star-studded opening night for his restaurant in Florida, his recent album, "Un Verano Sin Ti," has topped the Billboard 200 charts for a record-breaking number of weeks.

'Bad Bunny Day' Explained

According to the Boston Globe, the city of Massachusetts in Boston has officially declared August 18 as Bad Bunny day.

"Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio has reached millions of people in Latin America through music, art, and most importantly, through inclusiveness. He has revolutionized not only music but fashion by defying gender stereotypes that dictate how we dress as people," the proclamation states.

According to Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Bad Bunny takes pride in honoring those who, "dedication and excellence," contribute in a meaningful way to the wellbeing of the Latino community."

In a 2019 census, Boston was composed of 19.6% Latino and Hispanic communities, the second minority group in the city next to African-Americans, who comprise 22.2%. In estimates, 134,000 Puerto Ricans are said to have been settling in the city.

Wu said Bad Bunny, formally known as, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, deserved the honor for his commitment to inclusivity through his art. (via The Daily Voice)

"Boston is a diverse and inclusive city built on community and creative self-expression. In that spirit, our city recognizes the impact that artists, like Bad Bunny, have on our present and future as a city," Wu further adds.

Turns out, Mayor Michelle Wu was a huge fan of Bad Bunny.

In a tweet that gained massive traction, Mayor Wu was dubbed as "hands down the best Boston Mayor in history."

Bad Bunny is touring the United States for the "World Hottest Tour." He is expected to take Nationals Park with Alesso in Washington DC on August 23 before heading to the Yankee Stadium in New York City.
