After surviving seven gunshots during a failed robbery attempt in June, Lil Tjay is releasing a new single and music video entitled "Beat the Odds" on Friday to tell his side of the tale.
The rapper uploaded the cover art for his new single to Instagram on Thursday morning, which depicts him rapping on a mic while sitting upright in a hospital bed. Shortly after Tjay began his recuperation, a billboard in the Bronx promoted the rapper's comeback with the simple message "I'm back."
On Wednesday, Tjay posted a brief video update on Instagram in which he thanked his followers for their support and said that he had survived "seven shots" and that it was really tough. He added that he is aware that not all can survive such but he actually did, which meant it was not time for him to leave this world yet.
This means he has a new purpose and with that, he's coming back stronger than ever.
Tjay was one of the first Soundcloud musicians to emerge in 2016. The song "Resume" brought him to notoriety in 2018, and he signed with Columbia Records later that year. In 2019, he released "True 2 Myself," his debut studio album, which reached at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
The Bronx-born rapper has over 7 million Instagram followers and 957,9K Twitter followers. Majority of them prayed and offered their words of support when the rapper was shot.
