Girlpool shared devastating news nine years after it began promoting as an indie rock duo.
Ahead of Girlpool's 2022 North American tour dates, the duo shared a heartbreaking statement regarding the end of its promotion.
Avery Tucker and Harmony Tividad shared a statement confirming that their concert tours - which have since been cut down to one-third - would be their last shows together.
"After nine years, we have decided to take a break from Girlpool and go our separate ways as songwriters. This upcoming tour will be our last one - it will be an ode to the past, a celebration for the future and something we will pour both of our hearts into completely," the band said, as quoted by Pitchfork.
Tucker and Tividad also called each other "their biggest fans." Despite the split, they pledged to support each other in their future endeavors with or without each other.
Following the breakup announcement, fans expressed their heartbreak and shared how much they would miss Girlpool's music.
Girlpool's Career
Girlpool was formed when Tucker and Tividad met at the Smell, a Los Angeles DIY venue. The two immediately created the group before releasing the debut self-tirled EP in 2014.
A year later, Girlpool dropped "Before the World Was Big."
The duo then shared more music through different albums in the years thereafter, including "Powerplant," "What Chaos Is Imaginary," and "Forgiveness" - the latter was released this year.
Tividad explained that their latest album was inspired by the comfort she received after suffering from anxiety and chronic illness.
She told Crack's Niloufar Haidari that she saw more doors open when she began to feel better about herself.
The same album was created as part of Tividad's practice of self-forgiveness.
Meanwhile, they also shared a collection of demos in 2020 as part of Bandcamp Friday. Tucker recorded them after starting hormones when he came out as a trans man in 2017.
Per the musician, Girlpool's music during the early years of their career sounded different from their most recent work since the duo felt freer while creating the new songs.
Girlpool's fans will be able to hear them for the last time as a duo in Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
