90s sweethearts, Lance Bass and Danielle Fishel, are reliving their short romance through a movie inspired by their relationship.
The pair announced the exciting news through Fishel's podcast "Pod Meets World." Fishel was joined by Bass in the latest episode of the podcast with her co-hosts Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
"Lance and I are actually working on a movie about our love story and about our prom experience," Fishel said.
Fishel also revealed that Bass had a huge crush on her when they first met, and even asked bandmate Justin Timberlake to ask her for her number.
She, in fact, lived the dream of every 90s kid during that time-she dated and went to prom with an *NSYNC member.
"I dated Lance for about a year while I was on Boy Meets World. It was my senior year, and Lance came with me to my high school prom."
Their love story, as many probably already know by now, has long since ended because, Fishel says, "it turns out I'm not Lance's type."
Based On A True Story?
The movie's plot will follow the two's prom night-with a twist. Bass explained that they wanted to highlight their prom night because it was so relatable, at least to some.
"So many people in the LGBT community, their prom night was the night they were like, 'Oh, wait a minute. This can't happen anymore.' This was the catalyst for me that made me start to accept myself, which took a long time after that, but that was definitely the first little straw that broke."
Fishel on the other hand noted that Bass' apprehension was palpable, "Lance was very nervous about what my vision for that night was going to be."
"That is the night Lance talks about, where he felt like he was hurting me by not being honest with himself or anyone else about what was going on in his life so it was kind of the impetus for him to say, 'I'm going to end our relationship," she added.
Lovers Turned Friends
She noted that prior to their breakup, Fishel thought that their relationship was going to last, "I held on for hope for way too long that we were going to get back together and get married and have a family."
She explained how their brief union was "a very wonderful, very warm, loving relationship," however, it lacked intimacy.
This was perhaps because, in 2006, Bass publicly came out as gay. People Magazine featured him on the cover of their July 2006 issue for his official coming out. Despite that, the pair remained as close friends and the singer revealed on his podcast, "Daily Podcast," Fishel was long aware of this.
She explained that prior to him telling her, rumors of his sexuality had already been spreading, "All I felt at the time was this feeling of 'I hope that he isn't not telling me because he thinks that I won't accept him. [sic]'"
The singer then explained that he knew Fishel would be accepting of him, but it was "embarrassing" for him at that time, "You don't want people to know because you're just so embarrassed about being gay at that point. It was a different time, you know."
