Ed Sheeran desires to achieve the same level of success as Coldplay. The 31-year-old musician claimed he will not consider himself successful in the music industry until he achieves the same level of popularity and length of career as Coldplay and U2.

Asked what his next milestones or plans are, Sheeran stated the following to Access Creative College, where he is a patron: "Coldplay have done 20 years, so I would love to get to 20 years in my career. I feel like that's an achievable milestone. But it's still quite scary because it's a long way away."

Ed disclosed that he admires U2 and Coldplay for the sheer number of hits they have produced over their careers. He elaborated that in comparsion to to U2 or Coldplay, he is still extremely young in his career. He added that U2 and Coldplay are two bands that he follows closely because all that they have ever released became popular and successful.

"All of their set is going to be hits. They are never going to play a B-side that people kind of know, and it's always going to be a very impressive show. It's just bigger, bigger, bigger, better, better, better."

Sheeran, who has daughters Lyra and Jupiter with wife Cherry Seaborn, has previously stated that he intends to reduce his traveling schedule after becoming a father.

He then said that he would be horrified if, in 20 years, his connection with my children had worsened because I had prioritized business over them. This is why he decided that after the next tour, he's no longer going to have a tour of the same scale or nature anymore. Time is precious and he wants to spend ample of it with his growing children.

He however, did not push on with his plans of retirement. He said he considered stopping his job to focus on becoming a father to his 11-month-old daughter Lyra, but concluded it was best for him and his family if he "continues making music." In the interview, the singer admitted to finding himself as "getting really sad" and feeling like he had "zero purposes" despite loving the fact that he is a father.

He added that he suddenly realized that his retirement plans are not likely to make his children proud of him anyway. He'd rather his children or his firstborn at the time, grow up knowing her father has a work ethic and professional life that he took great care of, as much as he cared for his child at the same time.
