Fans have often questioned why Coldplay is recognized for its grandiose performances and strange stage surprises.

But it appears that they may soon have an explanation, as Chris Martin has revealed the reason behind the band's bizarre tour guests, which include puppet bands and even strange alien masks.

The "Yellow" singer-songwriter told The Sun that doing so allows them to feel free.

Martin also claimed that his bandmates, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion, generally shoot down most of his more outlandish ideas.

Martin performs "Biutyful" from their "Music of the Spheres" album with the imaginary extraterrestrial puppet band The Weirdos.

He also explained why they have masks, which shows their belief in "the equality of all people and all beings."

The boyfriend of Dakota Johnson explained, "The aliens and all that stuff, it's allegorical. It's us talking about life on Earth but without naming names because we are not really into criticism or finger pointing."

However, Chris Martin knows there will be people who won't understand what they're trying to creatively say in their performances, explaining, "When people say they don't really understand, I feel like that's OK, it is maybe not for everybody."

That portion is only six minutes long, but it allows them to be even more accessible, and they even believe it is one of the reasons they exist today - to be free and urge others to be free.

While the band's live concerts appear to be brimming with energy, Martin also revealed that he has made several changes to their shows that have been refused by his comrades.

He left the ultimate choice to his Champion, saying that the drummer must "feel it," and if he does, they will do it. They won't do it if he doesn't feel it.

Martin regarded Champion as the band's "heart and anchor."

Meanwhile, the famed band sold over 1.4 million tickets for their UK and European concerts in 2023 last week.

Their new tour dates were revealed after they completed the UK portion of their global tour, which featured six nights at Wembley Stadium in London.

This is one of their most extensive tours to date, with 105 events spread across 16 months and nearly two million people in attendance.

Chris Martin also revealed that the gigs almost didn't happen because the band has money problems. "But luckily we had some help and they saved the day and we did a few changes here and there."
