Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande on Filming 'Wicked'
During the red carpet premiere of "Pinnochio" in Los Angeles, Cynthia Erivo stopped to gush about how it is working with the GRAMMY-winning star.
"I love her, truly. She is funny and unbelievably talented and unbelievably sweet and truly working hard. We're both working really hard together. I'm excited for both of us," Erivo said in a statement to Variety.
Cynthia Erivo will be playing the powerful green-wicked always understood Elphaba, while Ariana Grande will be taking on the role of the kooky Good Witch of the North Glinda.
Originally in the Broadway musical, Idina Menzel originated Elphaba while Kristin Chenoweth played Glinda.
Earlier this April, the "Wicked" movie gets an important update from its director, Jon M. Chu. The movie will be released in two parts, one in December 2024 and one in December 2025.

"I was like, 'Well alright then, I guess we've got our work set ahead of us.' It's full on. And kind of exciting, because it means that we have more of the story to tell - more room, more real estate to tell these two stories," the actress furthered.
This was not the first time Erivo has alluded to her working relationship with Grande. During the recent SAG Awards red carpet, she mentioned that they have been seeing each other and building their relationship.
"Ariana and I have been meeting and chatting and talking and building our own relationship because we know that it's a sisterhood and we want to be ready and prepared to be there for one another," she elaborated.
They also spent "three hours" learning and studying their individual parts in the movie.
While filming "Wicked," Erivo is also filming "Pinnochio" where she will be playing the "Blue Fairy." The movie is set to premiere on Disney+ today, September 8.
