Is this really the end of the Yellow Brick Road for the "Rocket Man," Elton Jonh? He's taking a hiatus following his final tour, Farewell Yellow Bright Road to figure out his next move.
The 75-year-old singer appeared on the Hits Radio Breakfast show, hosted by Fleur East, and revealed the shocking news.
"After next year when I finish in Stockholm, I'll go on a bit of a hiatus and figure out what I'm going to do next," the "Rocket Man" singer said.
Although he is yet to figure out what's next for him, his schedule is not exactly free either, because he has a list of projects lined up for the following year.
The "Tiny Dancer" singer listed off a couple of his forthcoming projects, "There's a documentary out next year, I have a musical coming out next year. I have a musical coming out this year at the Almeida Theatre called 'Tammy Faye' which I've written with Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters."
A Fabulous Thing
Despite the hiatus, John added that he won't be sitting around, twiddling his thumbs. "I like to keep myself busy but music to me is the most incredibly healing and fabulous thing,"
"My whole life has been informed with music and it's not going to stop now," he continued.
This, sure enough, is evident in his recent and more dated releases. In 2021, John dropped his 31st studio album, "Regimental Sgt. Zippo." He also released "The Lockdown Sessions" that same year.
He also just recently collaborated with "Toxic" singer Britney Spears for "Hold Me Closer."
Given his love and passion for music, he might not last that long, and even he seems to acknowledge this, "I'm open to anything but I've got to finish my tour and I probably won't release anything next year but who knows!"
"I may get an offer from somebody, you never know... I might do something on someone else's record but not on mine," he added cryptically.
Recently Released
John also touched on the topic of his collaboration with Spears saying that it was his husband David Furnish who suggested he work with the 40-year-old singer.
"We've been in a bit of a Britney bubble because we watched the documentary and been following what's been happening to her and I said I'd love her to do it,"
"I'd love to sing with her and I think it would be good for her, tremendously good for her," he recalled.
He also noted that the single was finally something that was not solely about Spears' personal life, but her music career.
"Hold Me Closer" is Spears' first project after leaving her conservatorship, and John was ecstatic to have her on the track, "It's a real big bonus for me to have her on the song, she still sings amazingly and I'm trying to get her back to what she does - singing."
