Paul McCartney is one of the United Kingdom's most iconic musicians of all time because of his ever-famous band The Beatles and his solo career, meaning he's also a favorite of the Royal Family as he's been invited to perform in front of them countless of times.
One of the most unforgettable encounters of him with the late Queen Elizabeth II was in 1997 when the monarch knighted him.
"I felt very honored to be offered a Knighthood and of course, it would have been rude to turn it down!" he said. (via Uproxx)
However, there was one time when the longest-reigning monarch refused to watch him perform as she wanted to prioritize something else that evening.
According to "Twin Peaks" composer Angelo Badalamenti who spoke to NME in 2011, he worked with Sir Paul McCartney at the Abbey Road in London.
At the time, the Beatles legend told him a story about that one moment when he was invited to perform for the Queen and other members of the royal family for her birthday celebration.
Upon meeting the monarch, McCartney told her that he would be playing some music for her. However, Queen Elizabeth II turned down the offer, saying "'I'm sorry, I can't stay, it's five to eight and I have to go and watch Twin Peaks!'"

A day after Her Majesty passed away at the age of 96, Sir Paul McCartney took to his official Facebook account to recall some of his favorite interactions with the Queen.
He revealed that he entered an essay competition and won his division at the age of 10 for his writing about the British Monarchy, so it's proof that he's been a fan for a very long time.
The musician, who claimed to have met the monarch at least "eight or nine times," explained how he remained a fan through the years, saying he's impressed by her great sense of humor and great dignity. (via New York Post)
His most special moment was in 2012 when Her Majesty celebrated her Diamond Jubilee, saying it was the first time he performed for her since her previous Jubilee.
After singing in front of the leader, he also met some of the Royal Family members.
Her last meeting with the Queen was in 2018 when he was given the Companion of Honour medal. He recalled shaking hands with the monarch to which he also cracked a joke, saying "we have got to stop meeting like this."
Queen Elizabeth took the joke lightly and giggled at him.
