Britney Spears informed her fans in an Instagram post that she will "probably never perform again." This announcement may be unsurprising, given all the star has been dealing with ever since her conservatorship has ended, but it is still quite ironic, given how she and Elton John just dropped their collaboration and it has been placing her back on the charts.

In a fresh letter posted to social media, the pop superstar addressed her followers' expectations that she will perform again.

She emphasized her lack of control over her performances during her thirteen-year conservatory training in the caption of a photograph of herself naked from the rear. In November, the legal agreement came to an end.

Spears, 40, stated that her tour experiences, including those with professional photographers, had left her "traumatized."

"I'd rather quit s**t in my pool and shoot photos of myself in studios over working with the most offensive people in my life," she wrote. "Yes I'm p**sed as f**k and no I won't probably perform again just because I'm stubborn and I will make my point... kiss my God damn mother f**king ass."

As of writing, the caption has already been deleted although the picture remains.

The timing is quite disappointing.

"Hold Me Closer" by Elton John and Britney Spears debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart on September 10th.

It is only the third single since the chart's inception in January 2013 to debut at number one, following Lady Gaga's "Stupid Love" in March 2020 and Drake's "Falling Back" this July.

"Closer" is the second number-one single for both John and Spears, as well as John's second top 10 single and Spears's third.

John's first No. 1 with Dua Lipa, "Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)," spent 36 weeks at No. 1 between October 2021 and this June (the second-longest reign on the chart, following Marshmello and Bastille's "Happier": 69 weeks, 2018-2019).

Spears previously topped the chart for five weeks with "Scream & Shout" featuring will.i.am and reached No. 4 with "Work B**ch!" in October 2013. Britney Spears has re-entered the top ten. Tuesday,

"Hold Me Closer," also premiered at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier on.

This is Spears' first top 10 single in over a decade. The "Toxic" singer, 40, and John, 75, released "Hold Me Closer" on August 26.

The song is a reinterpretation of "Tiny Dancer" and "The One" by the Rocket Man. The dance single immediately ascended to the top spot on iTunes in more than 40 countries, earning acclaim from critics and Spears' attorney, Mathew Rosengart. "

No one should be surprised that her first foray [since her conservatorship ended] is a smash success," the former federal prosecutor told Page Six at the time, adding that he was "so very proud" of his client.

John, meanwhile, expressed his hope that the song's quick success would restore his collaborator's "belief in herself to return to the studio, record more albums, and realize she is bloody good."
