While many are trying to dispel such talk and this form of "victim-blaming," Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore stated that the gunman who killed PnB Rock at Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles was indeed, likely to have been motivated by what he saw on the girlfriend's social media post.
According to LAPD, the shooter demanded jewelry and other valuables before engaging in a struggle with the rapper and opening fire.
Moore stated that the attack on Monday occurred shortly after the rapper was identified online as being at the eatery, and authorities are investigating whether this was the motive.
Rock, whose full name was Rakim Allen, was in the restaurant with his fiancée, who shared a location-tagged Instagram photo that has since been deleted.
Moore stated that he "was with his family - with his girlfriend or a friend of his - and as they were having a nice supper, he was viciously attacked by a person who presumably came to the place in response to a social media posting."
There are staunch calls however to stop "blaming" the GF.
Captain Kelly Muniz of the Los Angeles Police Department stated that a suspect brandished a pistol and demanded belongings from the victim inside the eatery. According to sources cited by The Times, Rock was targeted for his valuables.
Muniz stated that Rock was shot almost immediately by the thief during the robbery.
"He shot the victim and ran out the side door to a getaway car and then fled the parking lot," she said.
The man was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m., according to Muniz. According to a law enforcement source, Los Angeles Police Department detectives are scrutinizing surveillance footage from inside the restaurant in an effort to identify the gunman.
In addition, they are examining nearby businesses to determine if their security cameras captured any photos of the attacker fleeing on foot or in a vehicle.
Muniz stated that investigators were reviewing evidence on Monday night. the detective refused to remark on the recovered items.
