It seems that after three years of being together, Julia Michaels and JP Saxe have called it quits, sources revealed to People Magazine.
While the pair have not directly addressed the split, rumors have already been spreading around following some teasers released by the singer-songwriters.
The pair got into a relationship shortly after the release of their collaborated song "If The World Was Ending," released in 2019.
'Cut So Deep'
Saxe posted a video on Instagram on Sept. 9. It shows the 29-year-old singer sitting on a bench, playing his guitar, and singing.
He sang, "When you think of me / Are you setting fire to every memory? / Do you believe what doesn't last forever don't mean anything? / Cause I swear I loved you fully / And I'm sorry not for staying who we thought I'd be / When you think of me, am I just another man who leaves?"
He captioned the post, "the news song from our pop-up show in Buenos Aires this week. I love these, let's do them everywhere," with a smiley face.
Despite his sunny disposition, fans already started speculating on whether he is singing about something personal.
"Aww Julia," a fan commented.
"[Damn]... [your] words cut so deep," another commented.
Julia's Response
As a talented singer-songwriter, Michaels seemingly responded to Saxe's song by posting lyrics of her own, "You're just another man / And this is just another doorway / Using promises like they're some kind of twisted fore play, You keep saying that you're staying / When we both know that's not your forte."
The "Issues" singer posted a screenshot of lyrics written on the notes app of her phone, which continues: "Cut to: you give me one last kiss / And leave your keys there in the foyer / And say you're sorry / You never meant to hurt me like you do / Well I'm sorry to me too / For all the love I wasted on you / Baby I'm sorry to me / Sorry to me too."
The Instagram story from the 28-year-old singer has already expired, however, some fans still managed to cop a screenshot of it, and posted it on TikTok, explaining the back and forth of the artists.
Fans are equally heartbroken with the news, "no cause this breakup literally ruined me," commented a fan. "These pop poetry fights are everything," commented another.
"This feels like another 'I'm a child of divorce,'" a fan joked.
A fan pointed out that the pair were using their breakup as a publicity stunt, "this gives publicity stunt lowkey, but great lyrics."
Back And Forth
The artists did not end there, because Saxe followed up with another Instagram post. It was a screenshot of the second verse of his song.
"I hate myself for hurting you / But it would make it worse to fix it / I wish I figured out a way of keeping myself in it / Because I meant to be the man you were standing with / Not another tally line to justify your fear of abandonment," the lyrics read.
On Sept. 15, Michaels uploaded a video of herself singing while she played the piano, captioning it "a**holes live forever."
