John Mayer looks back at the time he spent with his good friend Bob Saget with great fondness. The lessons and legacy of the late comedian still resonate with him to this day.

Saget unexpectedly passed away due to an accident in January. He was honored by the Scleroderma Research Foundation. They held their annual Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine event on Sept 21 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Saget was a longtime supporter and volunteer of the foundation.

Among the attendees was Mayer had nothing but nice things to say about Saget, "[Tonight is for] everyone who loves Bob a whole lot, coming here to carry on his legacy of caring about this foundation and raising as much money and awareness as possible."

Mayer recalled Saget's kindness and thoughtfulness, as he mentioned the three-hour conversations he used to have with the late comedian.

"[...] But on my way home, [I'd get] a giant text that Bob had dictated into his iPhone, half of which was [his] railing on Siri. But these incredibly loving texts, after having sat with him for three hours, getting another text of this expression of kindness and love," the 44-year-old singer shared with People Magazine.

The Legacy

According to Mayer, Saget had a way of making people feel appreciated and loved by letting them know.

"He would take it in the car and go, 'I have to let that man know how special tonight was,' and that's the legacy for me," he continued.

"To just let people know as much as you can, not just that you love them, but that the things that you do together are meaningful. I don't think we let each other know how meaningful these things are."

The "New Light" singer added that it was what made Saget stand out, "He just really appreciated the meaning of life and the meaningfulness of life."

He added that Saget's qualities like his kindness, caringness, and absurdity were always mixed with love, and admired him for maintaining his "silliness" despite growing older.

The lessons Saget imparted with Mayer ring true in his heart as he shared, ""He reminded me every time that, 'Yes, John, you can afford to be a little sillier if you've got love in your heart."

The Friendship

Despite Mayer being in music, and Saget in comedy, they shared a deep bond, Mayer revealed, because they both took the time to understand each other.

And whether they were discussing music or anything else, Mayer pointed out that it was not the topic that mattered as much as Saget's line of thinking was.

"But it really was less about what the subject matter was, more his style of expression, his style of thinking and I always found that incredibly artful," he told E! News.

According to reports, Saget and Mayer met during a fundraising event for charity. Saget reportedly reached out to Mayer to perform for an event by the Scleroderma Research Foundation.

Saget once talked about Mayer, "he's one of my dearest friends. I'm very lucky."
