Over the past 20 years, the instrument was a part of a private collection until today.

Along with the instrument, which features a Dean Markley sticker, comes the original handwritten invoice and a hard case.

The live bidding will begin on October 15 at 10 a.m. PT.

Who Bought Kurt Cobain's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' Guitar?

In early reports, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay placed a whopping $2 million bid on the memorabilia for it to be a part of his "greatest" guitar collection. Coltswire reported that the sports enthusiaist won the guitar for $4.5 million.

The instrument initially had a price tag of $600,000 to $800,000.

Irsay is known for having an extensive collection of guitars owned by legends as he spent millions of dollars obtaining them, including Bob Dylan's Stratocaster, George Harrison's Gibson, and many more.

Cobain gushed about his electric guitar in his final interview with Guitar World, saying it's hard to find a reasonably-priced left-handed guitar that has good quality.

"But out of all the guitars in the whole world, the Fender Mustang is my favorite. I've only owned two of them," he said at the time.
