After the release of the critically-acclaimed "Joker" in theatres last 2019, fans of the film were surprised by the announcement earlier this year that Lady Gaga would be taking on the role of Joker's equally-iconic partner in crime, Harley Quinn.
Lady Gaga, an Oscar award nominee for her film "A Star Is Born," is confirmed to be playing Harley Quinn, another character based on the DC Comics franchise where Joker was also based.
Although news for the upcoming film has been kept under the wraps, a film insider reveals that "Joker: Folie à Deux," might be taking a different route in terms of the genre of the first film, mainly because of the popstar's inclusion in the film.
Is 'Joker: Folie à Deux' Going to be a Musical?
According to film insider Grace Randolph, she recently found out that "Joker: Folie à Deux," would be told from Harley Quinn's perspective, in this case, it's Lady Gaga.
Not only that, Randolph claimed that since the movie is told from Harley Quinn's perspective - the movie would become a musical as that is how this character Harley Quinn sees things.
While the perspective aspect made sense, fans seemed to be on the fence with the recent revelations.
"That makes no sense to me, it's called joker 2 but they are going to focus on Harlequin? What?! Why not name it something else and make it it's own set of movies," a netizen pointed out.
Currently, Margot Robbie is DC Extended Universe's Harley Quinn, appearing in three movies already - "Suicide Squad," "Birds of Prey," and "Suicide Squad 2."

"Idk man!?! Firstly I'm not into musicals, secondly I thought we moved on from the Harley joker dynamic to Harley ivy. There's no way Gaga's portrayal can top the harley Quinn animated show. I'll just have to wait and see to form a genuine opinion," another fan says.
Meanwhile, not all comments about the new tidbit are negative. Some are actually hoping that as the buzz "Joker" had on the first movie - the second film might actually deliver something new, and probably an Oscar for Lady Gaga.
"I really don't get why people are already disliking this. It's a very interesting idea and Gaga has delivered great performances so far," another user argued.
In what seemed to be the biggest Oscar 2022 snubs, Lady Gaga played the infamous Patrizia Reggiani on "House of Gucci" garnering positive comments from critics, mainly praising Gaga for her "note-perfect performance."
