Paul McCartney’s Autographed Guitar Up For Auction To Save The Elephants

Former Beatle Paul McCartney has reportedly autographed a Martin D-28 left-handed guitar, which will be put up for auction, according to Rolling Stone. Proceeds will go to the Nature Conservancy's African Elephant Initiative.

Bidding began earlier this morning (Wednesday, Aug. 13) on eBay with a starting bid of $10,000.

Alongside his oh, so expensive signature, McCartney reportedly scribed, "This guitar saves elephants" on the Martin guitar.

David Banks, managing director of the Nature Conservancy's Africa Program, recently released a statement acknowledging McCartney's involvement. "To have Sir Paul's support and working with Martin Guitar is a real honor. This caliber of collaboration will make a difference to help end the worse poaching crisis in history."

The proceeds from the auction will go towards the Nature Conservancy's efforts in China and Africa as well as other locations with the hope to increase protection for these elephants and decrease the desire for ivory. RS reports that most of the illegal ivory in the world is smuggled to Asia, where it is made into anything from chopsticks to jewelry.

The Nature Conservancy hopes to educate people on the "spread of misinformation about the source of ivory," as the mag reports.

For more information on what you can do to stop elephant poaching as well as the trafficking of illegal ivory, visit the Nature Conservancy's website. And if you're like the rest of us and can't bid on the guitar – which by now is far above $10,000 – we think it's safe to say the company will gladly accept any donations.
