During an interview with Jessie Ware and her mother Lennie for their podcast show "Table Manners," Shania Twain recalled a dinner she had with Oprah Winfrey that turned "sour."
Twain and Winfrey are no strangers to each other. The latter has interviewed the singer numerous times throughout her career and have been in good terms with each other.
However, according to Twain, there was an instance wherein their conversation turned "sour" after the topic of religion was brought up.
"It was great to just sit and have real talks, but as soon as we started talking about religion, it all went sour," Twain said. "So I said, let's stop talking about religion."
The 57-year-old singer did not disclose when this dinner happened, however, she noted that their conversation was "one of her most memorable."
No Debate
Given her many years in the industry, Twain is well-versed in having conversations and interviews, as Ware noted, "but at least you knew to just stop it right here."
"You know how everyone always says, 'never talk about politics or religion,'" she jokingly replied.
So instead of pursuing a debate, she decided to let the issue die down on the spot, "it just wasn't debatable."
"There was no room for debate," she added. "And I like to debate. Canadians like to debate everything. So I'm like, 'OK, I'm going to change the subject.'"
Unlike Winfrey who was raised with a religious background, the "You're Still The One" singer described herself as a "seeker."
"I'm not religious in the sense that I'm dedicated to a religion. I'm much more of a spiritual person," she explained.
Collaboration
Winfrey was born in 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi, and is well-known for her talk show "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which ran from 1986 to 2011.
While she had a difficult start in her life, Winfrey managed to turn it around and become one of the most successful and influential women in the world.
She is also no stranger to difficult conversations, given her long stint with "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which tackled varying topics, wherein she interviewed a lot of people throughout the years.
While the conversation was probably an awkward ordeal for the two, this is only one of their many interactions. Twain and the 68-year-old host have collaborated way back for a docu-series called "Why Not? With Shania Twain." The docu-series had six episodes and are available on OWN.
The Canadian singer appeared on "Table Manners" with the Wares to promote her newly-released single "Wake Up Dreaming,' her first new release in five years.
