Tuesday night's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was "grooving" due to former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley sitting in with the legendary Roots crew. And while the two appear to be complete opposites in terms of music, they came together quite nicely during last night's episode for a version of "New York Groove," as Rolling Stone reports.
Donned with his flashing electric guitar and all, Frehley performed the tune in a true William Shatner-esque way –– speaking his way through the song with a minimal amount of actual singing.
Luckily he had some help from Roots guitarist "Captain" Kirk Douglas.
Check out Frehley (kind of) singing "New York Groove" below:
The appearance was all in order to promote the guitarist's upcoming LP, Space Invader, which will drop on Tuesday, Aug 19. Back in March, Frehley told RS, "I'm really excited about this record, because everybody that's heard the tracks just says they think some of the tracks are even better than Anomaly, and even showing another side of me." Anomaly was the musician's 2009 LP.
This year has been a rather exciting one for Frehley, even aside from the new album release. Back in April, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his Kiss bandmates. Of the guys, he tells the mag they are all "brothers in rock & roll."
"The press seems to amplify the fact that we hate each other, and we really don't," he says. "We've had our differences over the years, but every rock & roll band does."
