Attention, Barbz! School is definitely back, as a Nicki Minaj course will now be offered at the University of California Berkeley this coming Spring semester!
The Queen of Rap has evidently made significant contributions in the name of Hip Hop music, for the black community and in paving the way to weave hip-hop and pop music together in the past years.
In the coming months, UC Berekely will be offering an in-depth understanding of Minaj's contribution to said areas. (via Yahoo)
UC Berkeley will be offering an African American studies course in Minaj's honor in the coming Spring semester titled "Nicki Minaj: The Black Barbie Femmecee & Hip Hop Feminisms."
Per Berkeley's Academic Guide, the course will be including one and a half hours of in-depth studies of the female rapper every Tuesday and Thursdays next year in Spring 2023.
El Henson, a Black studies collaboratory postdoctoral fellow, will be teaching the course. In a grateful response on Twitter, they elaborated more on what the course will be about.
Per Henson, the class will be thinking critically about Nicki Minaj and her productions within the context of broader historical-social structures & hip-hop feminisms.
Minaj responded on the thread and expressed that she would want to stop by. Henson then gleefully invited the rapper over, noting that having her personal insights on the subject and topic would be "amazing."
Henson then proceeded to thank the Barbz, how Nicki Minaj's fans call themselves, after many expressed interest, appreciation, and excitement towards the class they would be offering.
"I feel so encouraged & i'm looking forward to sharing more details as they're finalized!" Henson said.
Meanwhile, in true Barbz fashion, excitement comes in one form - memes!
Currently, Nicki Minaj's performance of "Boss Ass Bitch," has been trending, Barbz likening Nicki's dialogue to how Henson would be explaining the rules of the class.
Since her debut in 2010, Nicki Minaj has broken barriers when it comes to her music and hip-hop too.
Per XXL, Minaj's emergence in pop music and hip-hop has brought forth a whole new generation of artists - including Lil Nas X, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, BIA, Cher Lloyd, Billie Eilish, City Girls, Latto, and even Saweetie.
Very recently, Nicki Minaj earned her Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, the highest recognition given to an artist by MTV network for her significant contributions to music and music videos.
