English singer Rex Orange County's Alex O' Connor was hit with six counts of sexual assault after a woman came forward alleging the singer of assault in his London home.

The unidentified woman, who is reportedly over the age of 16, claims that the singer assaulted her a total of six times-once in a taxi, twice in London's West End, and three times at his Notting Hill home.

When asked about the charges, his representatives replied: "Alex is shocked by the allegations which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court. He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings."

'Devastated'

Born Alexander James O'Connor, canceled some tour dates, citing "unforeseen personal circumstances" back in July. However, there was no indication of the sexual assault charge at the time.

"[...] I am having to spend some time at home this year and will not be able to continue with touring as planned," he wrote. "[...] I am devastated to say that the Australia, New Zealand, and European shows scheduled for September and November will be canceled. [...] This is the last thing I want to do." The announcement is now being flocked to by netizens following the news of the 24-year-old's impending sexual assault case.

"If these allegations turn out to be false y'all owe this man the biggest apology LMAO, [sic]" a Twitter user replied under Rex's tweet.

Me Too Movement

Rex Orange County is one of the many artists and actors accused of sexual assault after the #MeToo, a social movement against sexual abuse and harassment as well as rape culture. The #MeToo movement took off on social media platforms in 2017.

Personalities associated with sexual assault or abuse cases include the likes of Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey.

The rise of accusations against artists, actors, and producers have increased in recent years.

According to reports, O' Connor's trial is provisionally slated on Jan. 3, 2023, and is expected to last three days.
