NBA Denies Asking Toronto Raptors To Fire Drake Following $25,000 Fine

Pay up or fire Drake.

This is reportedly the ultimatum given to the Toronto Raptors by the NBA following a $25,000 poaching fine.

Reports from the Toronto Globe and Mail indicate the NBA wants the Raptors to remove Drake as their global ambassador but that may not be the case.

"The NBA offered to drop the tampering fine if the team agreed to strip Drake of his title. The Raptors apparently refused," Cathal Kelly recently reported.

According to the National Post, the NBA is denying that the league offered to drop the fine in exchange for Drake's title.

As previously reported, Drake was accused of tampering following comments made during his recent OVO Fest.

"Before we leave, I just want to show one of my brothers something. You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen," he said to KD who was in the audience.

Essentially, Drizzy does have some influence on the team's happenings but he crossed the line when he tried to use his celebrity to recruit players.

His comments were deemed a violation of the NBA's anti-tampering rules.

According to ESPN, Durant was the subject of what the league regards as a public recruiting pitch from the YMCMB.

Despite the fact that Drake has been the team's ambassador for a year now, one of the network's anchors thinks there are some better options for his position.

Kevin Blackistone took to Twitter to make his suggestion and as MTV reports it, even added that Wale has a better chance of getting Kevin Durant to the Washington Wizards, than Drake does of getting him to Toronto.

Drake responded with a laugh.
