Haitian singer Mikaben died during his concert in Paris. He was 41.
Mikaben, whose real name is Michael Benjamin, met his fans during a recent concert at the 20,000-seat Accor Arena in Paris, France. He was tapped as a guest performer in the Haitian group CaRiMi's show on Saturday.
He received praise from fans, but he immediately left them shocked when he collapsed as he made his way toward the back of the stage mid-performance. The music stopped soon after he fell to the floor.
Emergency experts and medics were immediately called to the stage to give him CPR. However, the singer did not make it.
Accor Arena confirmed the incident on Twitter, saying in a statement written in French that the singer died after the incident.
"The whole team at Accor Arena is terribly affected and sends all of its support to his family and loved ones during this painful time. Our thoughts also go out to Claude Cyndecki, his producer, as well as to his fans, who are shocked by this sudden death," the venue said, as translated by PEOPLE.
The arena added that Mikaben passed away suddenly after suffering a malaise on stage. It remains unknown what led him to experience the health issue, but The Guardian assumed he probably suffered a heart attack or cardiac arrest.
Johns Hopkins Medicine said that a cardiac arrest could have warning signs weeks - or even hours - before it occurs. The three main causes of the condition include arrhythmia, cardiomyopathy, and coronary artery disease.

Following the announcement of his death, Mikaben's fans thanked him for raising his country's flag through music and honored his legacy.

They were married in November 2020 and shared a 16-month-old daughter, Leïa. Their second child together is due in December.
Before his death, Mikaben was still able to share a video message on his Instagram Story to express his excitement ahead of his collaboration with CaRiMi.
